Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Lakeway Swim School?

A: Lakeway Swim School is a small business owned and operated by me (Jayne) that teaches young children how to swim from beginner level to intermediate with a strong emphasis on safety.

Q: How is Lakeway Swim School different than other swim schools?

A: Lakeway Swim School is an immersive course that teaches your child how to swim and more importantly retain their knowledge and skills by attending frequent and consistent sessions over a 2 week period. Other schools may offer once a week classes where a child can lose their momentum/progress due to lack of frequency. Also, your child will benefit learning from me as their instructor because I have ample experience in the pool both as a teacher and a competitive swimmer. I have a reputable and extensive aquatic background which you can learn more about here that other schools do not offer. I also ensure their experience is fun, they feel comfortable and they progress on their own individual level as much as possible.

Q: What age range does Lakeway Swim School teach?

A: Lakeway Swim School teaches water babies ages 1-2 with parents in the water and also 3 years and up on their own with me. All classes are in a group setting.

Q: How many kids will be in each class?

A: There will be a maximum of 5 kids in each class.

Q: What is the location of Lakeway Swim School?

A: Lakeway Swim School is run from my backyard in Old Lakeway, 1 minute from the Lakeway Heritage Center.

Q: How long is each session?

A: Each session falls over a 2 week period, Monday - Thursday for a total of 8 days of immersive lessons.

Q: What are the timeframes of each session?

A: All classes are 30 minutes long. For summer sessions, morning classes are held between 9am - 12pm. Afternoon classes are held between 12:30 - 3pm and evening classes are held between 4-7pm. For sessions before and after LTISD is out of school, classes are held between 4-7pm.

Q: How do I know what time slot my child will be in?

A: Once you fill out the “Enroll Now” form you will select preferred sessions and times of day. Once I receive your preference, I will let you know which time slots are still available and you choose from there. It’s important to select as many sessions as possible in order of preference to secure your space. With limited availability and high demand, spots will fill up quickly.

Q: How much is it to purchase a session for my child(ren)?

A: Water baby classes are $200 per child. All other sessions are $250 per child. A $50 deposit will be required upon booking and 2 weeks prior to start time the remainder will be due. Unlike many other swim schools, there is no additional registration fee required.

Q: Is the $250 refundable?

A: Deposits are refundable until 2 weeks before your session starts. The remainder of your payment is due before your session begins. Final payments are non-refundable however refund requests may be considered on a case by case basis.

Q: What happens if there’s lightning?

A: Classes will be rescheduled if it is unsafe to swim. Thunder and lightning will require a reschedule. Light rain will not. I guarantee 8 sessions even if they need to be rescheduled due to weather. Typically, the reschedule would be moved to that same Friday of the week, or over the weekend if Fridays are not available.

Q: What happens if my child misses a class due to illness or travel?

A: Make up classes based on the family’s personal reason for absences are not guaranteed however if there is space in a different class that allows a make-up session to take place, I will do my best to accommodate the request.

Q: Is the pool heated?

A: The pool will be heated to at least 86 degrees if the water is not already 86 degrees. Don’t hesitate to book the Spring classes based on temperature, the kids will have a warm and toasty pool to enjoy their lessons in.

Q: What do I need to bring to swim class?

A: For water babies ages 1-2, you’ll need a swim diaper, swim suits for parents and babies and a towel. For children 3+ they’ll need a swim suit and towel. Any child that is not fully potty trained will require a swim diaper regardless of age. I recommend the i play diaper. Please tie long hair back to help keep their eyes free of obstructions and please do not bring goggles. Your child will learn to swim without goggles to ensure if they ever accidentally fall in the water they do not panic because they don’t have goggles on and apply what they learned during my swim training.

Q: How do I enroll my child for swim lessons and/or ask questions not listed here?
